Godorenshuu Group ’25

Congratulations on making it to 2026!

We have a lot to look forward to in this coming year! Some changes are coming to our calendars and curriculums, but it’s no challenge we can’t tackle.

Belt Tests

In the past we’ve held our colored belt tests approximately every six weeks. We’re transitioning into a quarterly system, belt tests will now happen every three months. Currently they are scheduled for February, May, August, and November. Our annual black belt test will still occur in October. Check with your sensei about your next testing opportuinty!

Curriculum changes

Speaking of belt tests, some changes were made to the kata requirements for certain levels. Our own style’s katas (the Taisabaki series) were not previously tested. They have now been added in! Taisabaki Shodan will be required for 7th kyu (low purple), Taisbaki Nidan for 5th kyu (low green), and Taisabaki Sandan for 2nd kyu (mid brown). These will be in addition to the previous required katas. Seiryu has not been added to the list, but you should include it in your studies anyway! You never know when they might call on it…

Annual Events

Among the usual training and get togethers, we’re already planning our big annual events. A few of the biggest events are already on the books, so save these dates!

– The 40th annual Yoshida Cup is coming up in April! It will be a special one, so mark the calendar for April 18th.

– Gasshuku Summer Camp will be held in early August. Get ready for a weekend of good training and summer fun!

Final Thoughts

If you have questions about any of these things, ask your sensei! As always, thank you for letting us be a part of your martial arts journeys. We’re looking forward to another great year of training! OSS!
